Easy Recipe for Tom Yum Soup

Hello!  In my post for today, I’m going to share with you an easy recipe for Tom Yum soup, a Thai recipe. It is a simple soup to make, but it does require more preparation for the sea food if you are going to use more than one type of sea food, such as crab, fish, lobsters, or oysters, due to all the cleaning that you will have to do. Anyway, in this recipe, I just used shrimp and added some breast chicken to taste.

Cleaning the shrimps:

Years ago, I learned that to clean the shrimp properly, you need to remove all the veins (black line) in the back of each shrimp. But the funny thing is, I don’t know why I did not concentrate before, when I clean the shrimp, but, I looked at the inside of the shrimp’s tummy for the first time in this way, and I discovered that there is another vein! What! What’s the matter with my little shrimps?  

I had not noticed that before, and I decided that since I’d discovered it, I should get rid of these veins entirely, and of course I twisted the heads as well. Finally, I ended up with the cleanest shrimp ever! However, I have to learn what the other cord is?  For this reason, I googled it, and the answer was that there are two cords, one for the digestive system and the other for the nerve. Now the mystery is solved! There’s nothing wrong with my shrimp. So, whether to remove it or not is a matter of preference.

Tools to clean shrimps:

If you do not like your hands to get dirty while you are cleaning the shrimps, then I recommend these awesome tools, to ease your job. It is amazing; you just enter peeler inside the back of the shrimp, and then it will get all the shell out. Also, the knife is good for cutting the heads; I used before to twist the heads, and all the orange stuff spread on my fingers, not good at all. But now will not! After cleaning your shrimp, let me take you back to the recipe. About the ingredients, you can find them at Asian stores if you have one in your area or in the big supermarkets. This soup has abundant benefits for our bodies because of the wide range of therapeutic herbs. When I drink this soup, my paranasal sinuses are happy because it opens the blocks in my nose, as I’m always having chronic sinusitis issues, to make it runny again, with a feeling of happy relief and a clean nose because of all the hot peppers. I prepared only what we are going to consume; therefore, I used a small amount of each ingredient.

The ingredients:

  1. Four shrimps.
  2. Two lemon leaves.
  3. Galangal.
  4. Two sticks of lemongrass.
  5. One red and green hot pepper.
  6. Ginger.
  7. Lime.
  8. Garlic.
  9. Coriander roots.
  10. Mint.
  11. Tom Yum paste, it is a must to have. Check this recipe
  12. Some chicken breast. (Optional).
  13. Coconut milk.

How to make?

  1. To begin, proceed by reheating the pot and putting the oil, garlic, lemongrass, galangal, lemon leaves, and red pepper, ensuring thorough mixing of all ingredients. Next, include the chicken breast into the mixture.
  2. Next, pour boiling water.
  3. Put the coriander roots into the mixer. Allow the mixture to reach a boiling point and maintain it for approximately 30 minutes.
  4. Add the shrimp or any sea food available you have.
  5. Finally, include the coconut milk. Allow the mixture to simmer for a duration of two minutes.
